A few months ago, I had the opportunity to squeeze in a VERY quick trip to Charleston. This was my second time visiting the city and I certainly made the most of the trip. I spent the day on foot wandering around the peninsula and ended my visit on Sullivan’s Island with a great dinner and walk on the beach. I love Florida but we do not have very much architectural variety. Charleston has no shortage of eye catching designs making it the perfect place to pull inspiration from.
I really love how untouched the city is. As much as I love the newness that comes along with renovating a home, I appreciate the commitment to preservation that Charleston has. There is so much character in the old bricks, tiles, and casings. Although I am sure it is a huge undertaking, I think it would be the project of a lifetime to purchase and renovate a historical home on the peninsula.
This home on Church Street is my absolute favorite. I love how tastefully the place has been restored. The new glass and light fixture add a modern twist to the understated property. The color choice is quite muted compared to most other homes on the street which ironically makes it stand out.
The matching Vespa is the cherry on top for me.
I’m not sure how anyone can spend time in the south and NOT want to put flower boxes on every window once they get home. These photos are from early November, so you can see how people dressed up their window boxes for the fall season.
There are so many different colors, textures, and patterns within a small area. These homes have very little space between them, if any at all. It amazes me that somehow everything just “works” and nothing ever looks out of place.
A pink house and a church, two Charleston staples.
The following white home added accents in different shades of blue. The casings around the window are painted a powder blue while the front door is a bold navy color. If you have seen my kitchen you know that navy blue gets my stamp of approval.
Although I love social media and Pinterest for inspiration, it’s too easy to get stuck in a rut when deciding what direction to take for a home project. This little vacation was exactly what I needed to gather some new ideas! Leave a comment telling me your favorite place to visit for inspiration!
