My neighbor stopped by the other day to come take a tour of my personal renovations, he and his wife were in need of some design help! They recently purchased a cute vacation home in North Carolina that needs a bathroom and kitchen refresh. At first they wanted to know exactly where I purchased everything in my bathrooms in order to replicate it. Of course it made me so happy to hear that someone would love having a bathroom like the two I designed for my personal home. After showing me photos of the North Carolina home, I knew that replicating my bathroom was not going to match the rest of their home aesthetic!
For reference, I live two miles from the beach in South East Florida. I wanted my home to have a timeless undertone, with some fun elements reflective of Delray Beach! The home my neighbors purchased in North Carolina sits on a lot filled with mature trees, giving off a quaint cottage feel. The living spaces have gorgeous hardwood floors in a rich chestnut color (I hope they never replace this feature). My fun cabana bathroom vibe would be so out of place in this home!
The story continued to unfold. Demolition had already started on their bathroom but they had not chosen any finishes yet! Wanting to source materials quickly, I decided to help by creating a timeless bathroom. I specifically looked for products that were in stock and ready for pick up at local retailers. Mind you, I only had a few photos from the original real estate listing to help guide me but I was able to pull together a really lovely bathroom for them. I used Canva to create a cohesive plan for them (see below).

I felt that a wood vanity would be so warm and inviting in a traditional home. My neighbor told me that he wanted the floors to match the countertop. For this reason, I chose a marble basketweave tile. This will match the cararra marble countertop, but interjecting darker elements will add an element of structure. I suggested he use the basket weave tile on the main shower floor as well as the shower pan. For all of the hardware, I suggested a polished nickel or chrome finish. It is timeless and will look good for years to come! The bathroom is small, so with a large 60 inch dark wood vanity, I felt a white shower surround would prevent the bathroom from feeling too heavy. The white tile will also allow him to change the paint color in the bathroom over the years without having to replace tile choices! It’s good to keep those things in mind to prevent another expensive renovation down the road! It is so important to have a plan before starting a home project. It will help your renovation move along seamlessly, saving you time and money. You will be able to clearly communicate your wants with the contractor preventing costly mistakes. Most importantly, it will prevent you from making any choices you regret later on!
